Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Lantau Island

The journey took us some time, we arrived after 4 years! It's amazing, I've already lost hope, and yet the great running dream became a reality. Our qualifications for canceled due to the pandemic in 2020 year of the marathon have been transferred to the possibility of starting this year. The city opened to tourists only a year ago.

We landed on Lantau Island and immediately, as planned, we set out to explore the largest island. We planned to visit the Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha statue – one of the largest Buddha figures in the world.

Formalities at the airport took literally a moment and we could enjoy the warmth and weather. And not, back it was relatively cool and it was raining. It took us a while to get around the bus – because the departure board was impressive and after a short wait – I had fresh memories of a long wait for a bus in Miami (the area looked quite similar) we got on the bus (not a double-story one yet) going to the Ngong Ping Cable Car Station.

And we could immediately get acquainted with what is probably the most characteristic phenomenon in Hong Kong – QUEUES – for everything, to everything. Fortunately, the queue to purchase tickets was shorter, than the one with tickets. Efficient service made it possible, that we didn't have to wait long and quickly sat in a standard carriage. Pogoda nie rozpieszczała, the views and colors were not the best, although we still saw a large part of the island and the bridge to Macau.

We decided to take the funicular, because it is an attraction in itself, you can also come in – there are marked paths. At the place turned out to be, that we are on “Chinese Gubałówka”. A lot of people, pubs, shops and only somewhere in the distance you can see the monastery and the Buddha.

We surrendered to the atmosphere and absorbed the exoticism

We went up the stairs and inside

Monastery

We returned as we came – by Ngong Ping cable car and then by bus, already a two-story building near the hotel. We walked around the area and saw another characteristic phenomenon – EVERYTHING UP: skyscrapers, buses, trams.

In this way, millions of people are crammed into a small area and at the same time a record number of skyscrapers are built.

We were fascinated and enchanted, it's a completely different world…
