Suddenly, at the last minute, we learned about a new road cycling project in the Czech Republic. – A series of competitions covering iconic places, breathtaking views and legendary climbs. Road Classics offers competitions in the most interesting places - all over the country. Tempted by an interesting proposition, zostaliśmy “founding fathers” series and such an epic photo was created.

Start in Liberec, route 107 km with altitude difference 2350 m. It was going to be the most difficult start of the season.
The organizers proposed two starting formulas – a race for competitive cyclists and a more leisurely ride, although still with a time limit. Additionally, an elegant setting, closed roads and rich buffets with coffee served in cups.
The road to Liberec is very comfortable and we got there without any problems. Parking facilities offered (free, at shopping centers) quickly filled with cyclists, just like the market, where a cycling town has been prepared. We were a bit lost – maybe a bit due to the language barrier, but what was immediately noticeable was the very high level of organization. Strat, railings, tents – I felt like I was at a World Tour cycling race. I was also shocked by the huge turnout.

Wystartowaliśmy, initial kilometers – honorary start and then 7 km of uphill drive, good morning. There was basically no flat area at all, another driveway – 8 km and last 10,5 km. I won't say it was very difficult, I rode with a good attitude, at your own pace, just to the finish line. The weather was good and perfect, although it was a bit chilly on the descents, The wind was very disturbing and in some places you had to be careful, lest “disappeared” bike from the route. We were prepared for the final descent to the finish line in Liberec and wore windbreakers.
The scenic route was beautiful. Very good surface, in places – where were the holes, there were warnings and volunteers. The entire route was closed to traffic and perfectly secured and marked. Everything was extremely professionally prepared.

The route has been prepared 5 buffets, we took advantage of 4. From this 2 they were extremely rich with coffee served from an espresso machine in cups and sandwiches, miniburgery, Italian-style snacks and a wide selection of cakes. Water, of course, the isotonic, żele, fruit and plenty of everything, outside, that we were rather at the back of the pack. 2 buffets (one of which we missed) – let's say basic – i.e. water, that, owoce, żele, bars… At the end of the Ještěd underpass, after the time measurement stops, a sandwich buffet, cakes, poured milk and beer, and the last one at the finish line in Liberec in the form of lunch (which previously had to be selected from the menu). So, You definitely couldn't be hungry during this race.

Summary
We are extremely pleased, that we decided to take part in the Road Classics and were charmed by the level of organization. An army of volunteers, marshals, the police. There were a lot of people cheering and cheering along the route. It was a fantastic ride, outside, that the route was demanding. We are looking forward to announcing the competition schedule 2024 We will certainly choose something for ourselves this year.
